Nechirvan Barzani Urges Participation in Kurdistan Regional Elections

ERBIL: The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, has urged citizens to participate in the regional parliamentary elections, emphasizing the importance of voting as a means to legitimize the region's institutions. His appeal comes as Kurdistan holds its elections for the sixth parliamentary session. According to National Iraqi News Agency, Barzani made the call during a press conference after casting his own vote. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, Chief Justice of the Supreme Judicial Council Faiq Zaidan, the Electoral Commission, and the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) for their support in organizing the elections. Barzani emphasized that the elections represent a critical opportunity for the people of Kurdistan to exercise their democratic rights and choose representatives who will serve over the next four years. Barzani highlighted that the power and authority in the Kurdistan Region are derived from the electoral process, underscoring the citizens' responsibility in shaping the future through the ballot. He expressed optimism that the electorate would engage actively, reinforcing the democratic foundation of the region's governance. The election is seen as pivotal in establishing the legitimacy and continuity of the Kurdistan Parliament's function and authority.
