Sulaymaniyah: Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani welcomed the Kurdistan Workers’ Party’s (PKK) step to lay down its weapons during a ceremony held in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, attended by the leadership of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) and representatives of the Kurdistan Region, as well as a number of Turkish politicians, personalities, and media outlets.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, in a statement issued on Friday, Barzani described this step as “important and encouraging” for the success of the peace process, stressing that it moves the process to a new phase and will be followed by other practical steps that will move it forward in the right direction.

Nechirvan Barzani expressed his full commitment to providing the necessary support and assistance for the success of the peace process. He stressed that the peace process comes at a sensitive time in the region, which requires all parties to exert maximum efforts to ensure its success.

He expressed his thanks and appreciation to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his initiative, support, and efforts to ensure the success of the peace process. He also expressed his appreciation for the role of the leader of the Turkish Nationalist Movement Party, Devlet Bahceli, Abdullah Ocalan, and all those who worked to make the operation a success.
