Ottawa: The new Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carney, affirmed on Friday that his country will never become part of the United States of America, in light of US President Donald Trump's threats to annex Canada's northern neighbor. According to National Iraqi News Agency, shortly after being sworn in as Canada's 24th Prime Minister, succeeding Justin Trudeau, who had held the position since 2015, Carney said that "confronting the tariffs imposed by Trump will be a priority," stressing that his country "will never be part of the United States in any way." He expressed hope that his government and Washington will one day be able to "work together" to serve the interests of both countries. Carney, 59, also described the Trump administration as the biggest challenge Canada has faced in a generation, acknowledging his country's right to defend its interests in the ways it sees fit for itself and its people. Canada was forced to impose tariffs in response to those imposed by US President Donald Trump. Carney, a f ormer governor of the Bank of Canada, was elected last Sunday by an overwhelming majority as leader of the Liberal Party, succeeding Justin Trudeau, who announced his resignation in early January after nearly ten years in power.
