Mosul: The Nineveh Governorate announced the launch of a project to revive and reconstruct the Bash Tabia Castle in Mosul, in cooperation with UNESCO, as part of the third phase of the "Reviving the Spirit of Mosul" program. According to Iraqi News Agency, Nineveh Governor Abdul Qadir Al-Dakhil emphasized the significance of preserving Mosul's cultural heritage with the announcement of two initiatives aimed at reviving the Bash Tabia Castle, one of the city's prominent historical landmarks. This move is aimed at preserving cultural heritage and enhancing tourism. The first initiative involves the creation of a heritage-themed tourist park surrounding the castle, covering an area of over 9,000 square meters. This effort, undertaken in cooperation with UNESCO as part of the third phase of the 'Reviving the Spirit of Mosul' program, aims to develop the area's cultural landscape and provide a cultural and tourist space to attract visitors. The second initiative focuses on preparing the necessary technical stud ies, engineering designs, and bills of quantities to begin the reconstruction project of Bash Tabya Castle. Specialized engineering and academic teams will ensure that the rehabilitation work adheres to approved standards, preserving the historical and archaeological value of the site. Bash Tabya Castle stands as one of Mosul's most prominent heritage landmarks, with a history spanning over 1200 years and having served as a crucial defensive stronghold throughout the ages. Its restoration represents a vital step towards reclaiming one of Mosul's key historical symbols and enhancing its status on Iraq's cultural tourism map.
