Baghdad: The Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) denied on Wednesday printing quantities of new Iraqi currency with zeros removed.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the CBI has been monitoring the news and statements circulating in some media sources regarding the bank printing quantities of new Iraqi currency with zeros removed, in preparation for its circulation. The bank clarified in a statement received by INA that such reports are not based on any official source and firmly denied the printing of new currency with zeros removed.

The statement emphasized that any future project related to restructuring currency denominations or removing zeros will undergo multiple legal, regulatory, and technical stages. If an official decision is made, these stages will be announced through the bank’s official channels and various media outlets. There will also be a suitable transition period to allow citizens, banks, and institutions to exchange currency safely and systematically, ensuring the preservation of everyone’s financial rights and obligations.

Furthermore, the CBI urged citizens and media sources to rely exclusively on its official statements and channels for information related to monetary policy. It warned against relying on unverified news, figures, or information, as their dissemination may cause confusion or harm to citizens’ financial interests.
