Baghdad: The National Security Chancellery has clarified that there is no formal security agreement between Iraq and Iran, only a security memorandum of understanding.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Chancellery released a statement indicating that the memorandum of understanding between the two countries focuses on border security, security cooperation, and issues related to the Iranian Kurdish opposition and its five parties.

The statement further detailed that the memorandum of understanding was drafted before recent events described as Zionist aggression against Iran. The document underwent a thorough review process, was presented to the Council of Ministers, and received approval pending signature.
