Baghdad: Norway announced on Wednesday its support for Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi’s decision to integrate the Yazidi “Sinjar Resistance” forces into the government forces.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its support through a post on its platform (X), stating, “Norway supports the decision of Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi to integrate the Yazidi Sinjar Resistance forces into the Iraqi government forces.”

The statement highlighted the historical context, noting that during the ISIS terror, many Yazidis found protection under the Sinjar Resistance forces. It further emphasized the need for a political solution from the government to achieve lasting peace in Sinjar.

Earlier, Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ali Faleh al-Zaidi had announced that the Sinjar Resistance factions would start handing over their weapons to the state. He stressed that limiting weapons to state control and unifying security decision-making is essential for protecting the people of the district, consolidating its stability, and securing its future.
