Baghdad: The Parliamentary Affairs Department informed the Independent High Electoral Commission that the candidate of the Reconstruction and Development Coalition for Baghdad Governorate, Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, has apologized for not taking the constitutional oath for his parliamentary seat, as he wishes to continue serving as Prime Minister in the caretaker government.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Parliamentary Affairs Department requested to be informed of the name of the alternative candidate. This request is made in accordance with Law No. (1) of 2023, which is the third amendment to the Law on Elections to the Council of Representatives and Provincial Councils No. 12 of 2018, as amended.
