Oil: Gas Investment is One of the Government’s Top Priorities

Baghdad: The Ministry of Oil emphasized the importance of continuing to develop gas projects and increasing their efficiency and production capacity. According to National Iraqi News Agency, the office of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Extraction Affairs, Nasir Aziz, stated in a press release that the Undersecretary recently met with Fakher Bader, the Director of Shell in Iraq and the UAE, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation and develop joint projects in the gas sector.

The statement further elaborated that the Undersecretary was briefed by the Shell Director on the company’s strategic plans. These plans include increasing the production capacity of the Basra Gas Company and utilizing more associated gas from various oil fields. Additionally, there are plans to escalate the production and export of naphtha and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), aimed at maximizing the benefits from hydrocarbon resources and bolstering revenue streams.

This focus is due to the strategic significance of the gas sector in supporting the energy system, minimizing gas flaring, boosting fuel supplies for industries and power generation plants, and enhancing the economic value of national resources. He affirmed the necessity of advancing gas project development, increasing their operational efficiency and production capacities, and expediting plans that ensure optimal investment in associated gas while enhancing Iraq’s production and export capabilities.
