Baghdad: The Ministry of Oil confirmed today, Friday, that US companies’ dealings with the Kurdistan Region, independent of the federal government, are unconstitutional. A statement from the Ministry emphasized the importance of adhering to the stipulations of the Iraqi constitution and the decisions of the Federal Court in all oil and gas field developments.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Oil expressed its readiness to collaborate with US companies, provided that such engagements occur through direct relationships and contracts approved by the federal government. The Ministry highlighted its ongoing contracts with US firms in various oil sectors, including well drilling, associated oil services, and consulting services.

The statement further clarified that while the Ministry has no objections to engaging with US companies, any direct dealings with the Kurdistan Regional Government, bypassing federal authorities, are in violation of the Iraqi constitution and applicable laws. The Ministry reiterated its stance that all engagements should occur through official channels to ensure compliance with national regulations.
