Muscat: Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi announced that the fifth round of negotiations between Iran and the United States regarding Tehran’s nuclear program will take place in Rome next Friday.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the United States and Iran have already engaged in four rounds of indirect negotiations, with Oman serving as the mediator in these discussions. The main objective of these talks is to reach an agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.

Washington has consistently expressed its goal of preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. One of the proposed conditions for concluding a deal includes the suspension of uranium enrichment, which Washington views as a crucial step. However, Tehran has opposed this condition, asserting that uranium enrichment for civilian purposes is a legitimate right.

The most recent round of negotiations occurred in Oman on the 11th of this month. Officials from both Iran and the United States described the discussions as “constructive” and “positive,” indicating some progress in the ongoing dialogue.
