Baghdad: Palestine welcomed the final statement of the BRICS leaders’ summit, which called for a permanent and unconditional ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and Israel’s withdrawal from all occupied Palestinian territories.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry issued a statement urging urgent international intervention and necessary measures to compel the occupying state to halt its aggression and its war of genocide, displacement, and annexation against the Palestinian people.
The ministry emphasized the need for “opening a negotiated political process to resolve the conflict in accordance with international peace terms of reference and the Arab Peace Initiative, and enabling the Palestinian people to exercise their right to self-determination and achieve their just and legitimate national rights, as a valid approach to achieving security, stability, and prosperity for the region and the world.”
During the summit, the BRICS leaders issued a joint statement calling for Israel’s complete withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and all occupied Palestinian territories, and for a permanent and unconditional ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. They affirmed that Gaza is “an integral part of Palestine.”
