Baghdad: Parliament Speaker Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani has emphasized the collective responsibility of legislators, state institutions, and society to work towards strengthening laws to combat violence against women. In his address at the Islamic Conference on Combating Violence Against Women, Al-Mashhadani articulated the crucial role women play in the nation’s development.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Mashhadani declared that women should not be viewed as victims or burdens but as fundamental to the construction of society. He highlighted that placing women in male-dominated fields without adequate protection constitutes a form of violence against them. Al-Mashhadani emphasized the historical necessity to correct societal courses by positioning women appropriately and ensuring their protection.
Concluding his remarks, the Speaker paid tribute to the women of Gaza, pointing out that their struggles have exposed the hollow nature of slogans by organizations linked to global Zionism, which have long claimed to advocate for women’s rights.
