Baghdad: The Parliamentary Bloc (Huqooq) has urged the government to reassess and terminate the security agreement with the United States of America.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the bloc’s Head, MP Hussein Munis, addressed the issue during a press conference, highlighting concerns over Iraqi sovereignty and national security. Munis stated, “Today, we are not only talking about a violation of Iraqi sovereignty, or an attack on a neighboring Muslim country that stood with us during this ordeal. We are talking about a clear threat to Iraqi national security.”

Munis further elaborated on the necessity for tangible actions concerning the security and military aspects of the agreement with the United States, which he claims has become obsolete. He referenced previous incidents, such as last year’s attacks by Zionist forces on Iraqi leaders, for which responsibility was explicitly claimed. Despite these claims, violations continue under the current agreement.

The security challenges, Munis noted, include a recent incident where Iraqi radars were reportedly disabled, preventing the tracking of aircraft or airspace violations. This, he argued, indicates a lack of concern and failure by the government and related agencies to uphold sovereignty as per the Iraqi constitution.

Additionally, Munis criticized the perceived absence of Iraqi diplomacy, especially as Iraq currently holds the chair of the Arab Summit. He stressed the importance of Iraq taking an active and effective role during its presidency, calling for ambassadors and presidents to establish a unified stance.
