Baghdad: The “I am Iraq” parliamentary bloc has expressed criticism regarding the continued attempts to pass laws using the “single basket” mechanism. This approach involves collecting a package of controversial laws to be voted on in one session by members of the House of Representatives, without ensuring their legal maturity.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the head of the bloc, MP Haider Al-Salami, in a press statement today, emphasized that the insistence on following the single basket mechanism perpetuates a policy of mutual political servicing cooperation among political forces. Al-Salami noted that this practice reflects a state of distrust between the political entities and places members of the House of Representatives in challenging and unfortunate positions.

Al-Salami urged all political parties to prioritize the interests of the Iraqi people over narrow factional interests. He stressed the importance of making additional efforts to address and correct the content of the laws on solid le
gislative foundations to ensure consistency with the supreme interest of the country, distancing from partisan interests.
