Baghdad: The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee has proposed measures to investigate certain officers and personnel, following indicators that suggest the need for further inquiry. This recommendation aims to address issues within security checkpoints and enhance their operational efficiency.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the committee convened a joint meeting with senior military and police officials, including Lieutenant General Abdul-Muhsin Hatem Musa, Major General Maad Badai, and other commanders from Salah al-Din, Kirkuk, and Nineveh. The discussion focused on current procedures at security checkpoints, identifying areas for improvement to ensure compliance with legal standards and the protection of citizens’ rights. Complaints of arbitrary practices and bureaucratic hurdles faced by citizens during inspections were also a significant concern.

The committee stressed the importance of implementing security measures in alignment with constitutional and legal frameworks while upholding citizens’ dignity and rights. Ensuring professional standards during inspections was highlighted as essential for balancing security needs with the protection of freedoms. The meeting underscored the importance of avoiding any misuse of power or arbitrary actions that could undermine public trust.

To further enhance security operations, the committee recommended the rotation of officers and personnel among checkpoints. This strategy aims to foster discipline, mitigate negative behaviors, and reinforce professionalism within security forces. The committee assured that it would actively oversee the investigation process and the execution of recommendations, reinforcing the principles of the rule of law and human rights respect in the security sector.
