Baghdad: The State of Law Coalition has announced that political blocs are nearing an agreement on a new formula for the Popular Mobilization Forces Law, setting the stage for a parliamentary session to approve the law this week.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, State of Law Coalition MP Thaer Mukhif al-Jubouri stated that discussions over the past few days have led to a near-consensus among political blocs. The new formula is a compromise that neither fully aligns with the desires of the Popular Mobilization Forces nor those who oppose the law.
MP al-Jubouri indicated that a date for a special parliamentary session will be set this week to finalize and approve the law. The political blocs are currently focused on completing the final adjustments to the proposed formula before it is presented in Parliament.
