Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani affirmed the government's intention to review financial and economic aspects and raise the efficiency of the Ministry of Oil's sectors, considering it the backbone of the state's general budget.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, in a statement issued by his media office, Prime Minister Al-Sudani chaired a meeting on Wednesday dedicated to the oil and gas sectors. The meeting was attended by the Ministers of Oil and Finance, several advisors, and senior staff from the Ministry of Oil and the State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO).

Al-Sudani emphasized the government's commitment to reviewing financial and economic aspects and enhancing the efficiency of the Ministry of Oil's sectors, recognizing their crucial role in supporting the national budget.

The meeting discussed plans for developing crude oil production and exports, as well as efforts to achieve self-sufficiency and export refined petroleum products, and to determine domestic consumption quotas.

The meeting also addressed the localization of industries essential to the oil sector and the development of national capabilities in both the public and private sectors in areas such as drilling, extraction, and mechanical engineering, with the aim of relying on national expertise in these fields.
