Baghdad: Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi attended the 18th Islamic Day to Combat Violence against Women Conference, organized by the National Wisdom Movement in Baghdad.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Prime Minister Al-Zaidi paid tribute to the late Sayyid Abdul Aziz Al-Hakim, who initiated the conference, and expressed gratitude to Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakim, the Head of the National Wisdom Movement, and the event organizers for maintaining this important annual gathering. During his speech, Al-Zaidi announced the government's commitment to reconstituting and revitalizing the Supreme Council for Women with a new vision aimed at achieving its goals and serving as a legal and executive framework for advancing the status of Iraqi women.

Al-Zaidi emphasized the government's recognition of women's crucial role in comprehensive development, as reflected in the Government Program. He highlighted the significant contributions of Iraqi women in confronting challenges, particularly during the fight against ISIS, which perpetrated severe violence against women. These experiences underscore the necessity of creating a safe environment to prevent violence against women and protect their status through appropriate deterrent measures and legislation.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of developing women's scientific and intellectual capacities and enabling their participation in leadership roles. He expressed pride in the increasing presence of women across all constitutional branches of the state. Al-Zaidi called for protecting women from abuse and blackmail by fostering a culture of respect and ensuring their rights are upheld, emphasizing that this is a collective responsibility shared by society, government, and the state.
