Baghdad: Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani chaired, on Thursday, the periodic meeting dedicated to reviewing the progress of the Oil Ministry's projects as of November 26, 2025. During the meeting, Al-Sudani emphasized the importance of regular follow-ups on strategic projects across the ministry's various sectors, underscoring the need to expedite pending decisions on previously approved projects to enhance production capabilities, while strictly adhering to the timelines submitted by the ministry to ensure tangible progress.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting included discussions on work paths and the current status of projects related to export and gas systems, as well as the refining and distribution sectors, in addition to both fixed and floating gas platforms. The discussions also addressed the desalination project in Basra Governorate, particularly the portion overseen by the Oil Ministry.
Progress in the development of the Artawi oil field and the Artawi gas complex, with a capacity of 210,000 barrels per day, being implemented by Basra Oil Company was also reviewed, along with the development of the Mansouriya and Akkas fields in Diyala and Anbar provinces by the Midland Oil Company. Updates were also presented on the award of contracts under the fifth licensing round for the eastern fields.
The meeting further examined projects within the export system, including the implementation and completion of offshore pipelines (No. 4 and 5), the completion of the Faw storage facility by Basra Oil Company, and progress in the Nasiriyah crude oil storage project. Plans to rehabilitate the northern export system to enhance crude export flexibility were also reviewed.
In the refining sector, the meeting showcased the fully commissioned Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) unit at the South Refineries Company, along with the construction of two refining units with a capacity of 10,000 barrels per day each at Haditha refinery. Additional updates included the development of Amara refinery with a capacity of 70,000 barrels per day, the expansion of Diwaniyah refinery, the establishment of an aviation fuel refining unit with the same capacity at Al-Samoud refinery, and ongoing work at the Oils Refinery project producing 17,500 barrels per day of base and foundational oils.
