Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani emphasized the significance of Malaysia’s involvement in the development of Iraq’s oil sector, particularly highlighting the role of Malaysia’s Petronas company.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Office revealed that Al-Sudani hosted Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in Baghdad. During their meeting, both parties discussed the strengthening of bilateral relations and explored methods to enhance cooperation.

The statement further detailed that the discussions included a review of various cooperative areas, with a strong emphasis on reactivating the Iraqi-Malaysian Joint Higher Committee meetings. This initiative aims to expand the bilateral partnership between the two nations.

Moreover, the dialogue highlighted the importance of aligning positions on several regional and international issues, with particular focus on the ongoing war on Gaza and the collective stance of Islamic countries concerning the conflict.

Al-Sudani also pointed out the necessity of enhancing collaboration in the energy and natural gas sectors, identifying them as promising investment opportunities for both Baghdad and Kuala Lumpur.
