Baghdad: Prime Minister, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, has ordered the formation of an investigative committee to look into the circumstances surrounding the death of Sheikh Abdul Sattar Al-Qarghouli, a well-known imam and preacher.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Joint Operations Command announced that the committee will be chaired by Baghdad Operations Command and will include representatives from the Ministry of Interior and the National Security Service to conduct a thorough and urgent investigation into the incident.
The statement added that Al-Sudani emphasized the need to swiftly uncover the facts and take legal action against all those found involved, with the aim of referring them to the judiciary to ensure justice is served.
The Prime Minister further stressed that the government ‘will not tolerate any party proven to be negligent or complicit in the incident,’ underscoring the strict application of the law against all offenders.
Al-Sudani also highlighted the importance of promoting the values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence, rejecting all forms of incitement and hatred in order to safeguard social peace, preserve national unity, and strengthen mutual respect among the diverse components of Iraqi society.
