Kirkuk: The Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) announced on Friday the arrest of a person wanted by the judiciary in Kirkuk province over alleged links to ISIS.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the authority stated that detachments from the Investigations and Preventive Security Directorate, affiliated with the General Directorate of Security and Discipline at the PMF Authority, arrested a prominent individual wanted by the Iraqi judiciary in Kirkuk province after obtaining the requisite judicial approvals.

The statement added that the operation was carried out based on accurate intelligence information. The detachments precisely identified the suspect’s whereabouts in the province and conducted the security operation in accordance with legal frameworks, arresting him without significant obstacles.

Preliminary information indicated that the detainee was linked to former members and leaders of the terrorist ISIS organization. Investigations also revealed that his uncle had held the position of the so-called ‘Dijla Governor’ within the terrorist group, underscoring the significance of the target and the need for intensified monitoring of him.

The statement concluded that the detainee was placed in the custody of the directorate to take the necessary legal measures against him and refer him to the competent judicial authorities to complete the investigations and due legal procedures.
