Baghdad: The Prime Minister’s Advisor for Constitutional Affairs, Hassan Al-Yasiri, confirmed that the resignation of all or some members of the Federal Supreme Court will have no direct impact on the upcoming parliamentary elections. Al-Yasiri stated that, from a purely constitutional standpoint, the elections can proceed as scheduled, ensuring their legitimacy remains intact.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Yasiri emphasized that while the resignations might pose an indirect impact, the court’s role in ratifying the final election results remains a formal necessity. He reiterated the call for future constitutional amendments to eliminate the requirement for the Federal Court to ratify election results, arguing that the current ratification process is largely symbolic and unnecessary due to the independence of the election commission.

Al-Yasiri further clarified that the resignations will not affect the government’s legitimacy or the continued work of the Council of Representatives. He suggested three mechanisms to resolve the issue: the withdrawal of resignations, resignation of other members to implement a legislative amendment, or a reconstitution of the court by amending the Federal Court Law.
