Salah al-din: The 63rd Brigade of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) announced on Sunday that it had thwarted an attack by ISIS militants on one of its security checkpoints in Tuz Khurmatu district, east of Salah al-Din province.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the 63rd Brigade reported that one of its commando regiment’s checkpoints was attacked by a group of ISIS militants in the Marsa Ali Mountains sector of Tuz Khurmatu district. The statement added that a force from the commando regiment immediately repelled the attack, engaging the militants and forcing them to flee back into the rugged terrain without achieving their objectives.

The 63rd Brigade command affirmed that its forces are fully prepared to deal with any terrorist activity targeting the security and stability of the region, emphasizing its continued pursuit of ISIS remnants and its commitment to preventing them from carrying out any attacks.

She explained that a Peshmerga force, along with the Iraqi army and the Popular Mobilization Forces, launched a large-scale security operation this morning in the vicinity of the Marsa Ali Mountains and the nearby rugged terrain. The operation aims to track down the members of the terrorist group that carried out the attack, determine their route of movement, identify their points of origin, and uncover details regarding their hiding places and how they reached the attack site.

The command indicated that the joint forces are continuing search and sweep operations in the area to prevent any further movement by the organization’s elements and to enhance security and stability in the Tuz Khurmatu sector.
