Baghdad: The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, affirmed on Tuesday that Iraq is embarking on an electoral experience that represents a fundamental milestone in consolidating the principle of the peaceful transfer of power.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Presidency of the Republic stated in a statement that President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid received, on Tuesday, at the Baghdad Palace, a number of Ambassadors and heads of missions of Arab and Islamic countries accredited to Iraq. They reviewed the latest local and international developments and discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation and deepen bilateral and regional partnerships.

The President emphasized that Iraq is about to embark on an electoral process that represents a fundamental milestone in consolidating the principle of the peaceful transfer of power. He noted that everyone is keen to ensure that this process is conducted with the highest levels of transparency and integrity, and that it embodies the free will of the Iraqi people and their aspirations for a better future.

He explained that Iraq is making steady strides toward recovery, placing security and stability at the heart of its priorities, with a focus on reconstruction and infrastructure development, promoting investment and job creation, and confronting existing challenges to ensure a decent life for citizens and achieve sustainable development that meets the aspirations of future generations.

The President emphasized Iraq’s keenness to expand its partnerships with brotherly and friendly countries on the basis of mutual respect and to enhance cooperation in various development fields. He noted that Iraq’s policy of openness and balance is based on building bridges of dialogue and effective diplomacy, avoiding escalation through political, economic, and developmental tracks, thus mitigating the climate of tension, supporting the well-being of peoples, and enhancing their aspirations for a secure and prosperous future.

The President highlighted the efforts of the Presidency of the Republic on several priority issues and matters, including its submission of a number of draft laws directly related to the lives of Iraqis to the Council of Representatives for discussion and approval.

The statement continued, regarding Iraq’s position on important international issues, particularly the ongoing aggression on Gaza, he explained that the humanitarian tragedy there calls for a unified Arab and Islamic stance that assumes its responsibilities towards an immediate ceasefire, ensuring the delivery of aid, and protecting civilians. He noted that Iraq’s position is steadfast in supporting the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.

He called on the international community to assume its responsibilities to find a political path that restores rights and puts an end to the suffering of civilians, noting welcomes the ongoing peace process in Turkey and putting an end to the fighting that has been raging there for many years.
