Baghdad: The President of the Republic, Nizar Amidi, affirmed that the Baghdad International Book Fair represents an extension of the capital’s cultural and civilizational heritage, emphasizing its role as a hub of science, culture, and thought.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Presidential Media Office released a statement noting President Amidi’s visit to the 27th Baghdad International Book Fair. During his visit, the President toured the exhibition pavilions alongside the Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities, Sarwa Abdul Wahid. He reviewed the latest publications from Iraqi, Arab, and international publishing houses, examining the titles and works presented in various intellectual and academic fields.

In discussions with publishers and participants, President Amidi emphasized the book fair’s role in extending Baghdad’s cultural heritage. He asserted that Baghdad deserves to regain its status as a beacon of science and knowledge, where books play a crucial role in its civilizational projects. Highlighting the importance of books in Iraq’s renaissance, he stressed that the nation’s progress begins with building the individual, for which books are essential tools.

The President also remarked that exhibitions serve as vital platforms for intellectual exchange among nations, reflecting their progress and promoting freedom of opinion and expression. He praised the efforts made to ensure the success of the cultural event, which seeks to restore the book’s significance in societal development and future shaping.
