President of Iraq Highlights UNAMI’s Critical Role in Supporting Development


Baghdad: The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, has emphasized the significant role of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) in aiding the country’s development and tackling the challenges of the current phase. During a meeting at the Baghdad Palace with Mohammed Al-Hassan, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq and Head of the UNAMI Mission, the President underscored the mission’s contribution to sustainable growth and its importance in facing Iraq’s present challenges.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Presidency’s media office released a statement detailing the discussion, which focused on the United Nations’ efforts to support sustainable development in Iraq and explore avenues for enhanced cooperation. The President highlighted Iraq’s commitment to expanding its collaboration with the United Nations and its affiliated bodies, reinforcing the partnership’s significance for the nation’s progress.



In response, Mohammed Al-Hassan conveyed Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres’s greetings to President Rashid and expressed gratitude for the President’s continued support of UNAMI’s initiatives. Al-Hassan reiterated UNAMI’s dedication to assisting Iraq in various domains, including development, education, and humanitarian efforts, thereby strengthening the cooperative ties between the United Nations and Iraq.
