Baghdad: The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, emphasized the need for ongoing efforts to secure Iraq's fair share of water resources in a meeting with the Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Diab Abdullah. They discussed the current water situation and the measures needed to address water scarcity in the nation.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the presidency detailed that President Rashid met with the Minister of Water Resources to deliberate on strategies for tackling water scarcity in Iraq. The President underscored the significance of cooperation with upstream countries to enhance water releases and maintain regional efforts to secure Iraq's rightful share of water resources.

President Rashid also highlighted the necessity of monitoring dam construction and addressing the challenges of drought, desertification, and diminishing groundwater levels. He called for improved water management practices to prevent wasteful use in agriculture and direct consumption, as well as the implementation of awareness campaigns to encourage responsible water use.

The Minister of Water Resources provided an overview of the Ministry's current workflows and strategies for managing Iraq's water resources. He also shared the ongoing efforts with neighboring countries to ensure fair water distribution that protects both life and the environment while supporting shared interests.
