President Rashid Stresses Importance of Preparations for Iraq’s Upcoming Elections

Baghdad: President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid affirmed the importance of the commitment of constitutional and legal institutions to ensuring the success of the upcoming elections by completing the necessary preparations to organize them efficiently and credibly, thereby strengthening citizens' confidence in the democratic process. The Presidency stated in a press release that President Rashid received, on Sunday at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad, the United Nations Secretary-General's representative in Iraq, Mohamed Al-Hassan, and his accompanying delegation.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting discussed key regional and international issues, particularly the latest developments in the region and their future implications, as well as the role of the United Nations in promoting dialogue and coordination among regional countries to ease tensions. The statement added that the discussions also covered political developments in Iraq and the ongoing preparations for the upcoming electoral process, with the President emphasizing the need to hold elections in accordance with standards and regulations that guarantee integrity and transparency.

President Rashid highlighted the importance of the international community's role, especially that of the United Nations, in providing technical assistance and election monitoring to ensure that the process reflects the true will of the Iraqi people. For his part, Mohamed Al-Hassan reaffirmed the United Nations' full support for Iraq's efforts to conduct the electoral process in line with standards of transparency and integrity, praising the steps taken by the Presidency and relevant institutions to create favorable conditions for the elections.
