Baghdad: President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid reaffirmed on Tuesday Iraq’s steadfast commitment to supporting international efforts to combat terrorism.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Rashid participated in a memorial ceremony organized by the United Nations mission in Baghdad on the occasion of World Humanitarian Day and the 22nd anniversary of the terrorist bombing that targeted the mission’s headquarters. This attack claimed the life of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative in Iraq, Sergio Vieira de Mello, along with several of his colleagues.

During his meeting with UN Mission Head Mohammad Al-Hassan, the President expressed his appreciation for the sacrifices of the victims of the attack. He emphasized that honoring them serves as a tribute to their humanitarian legacy and as encouragement for those who continue to carry out vital work despite the risks.

Rashid also reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to supporting international efforts to fight terrorism and conveyed his condolences to the victims’ families on behalf of the Iraqi people.
