Baghdad: The President’s Representative, Chief of the Presidential Office Kamel al-Dulaimi, stressed that what the Yazidis have experienced is a wound for all Iraqis, and that our unity as a society is not complete until every individual feels they have equal rights and fair opportunities, free from marginalization, classification, and division.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, in a speech delivered on behalf of the President of the Republic during the annual ceremony held in Baghdad today to mark the eleventh anniversary of the genocide against the Yazidis and other ethnic groups, al-Dulaimi said that legislation alone cannot match the magnitude of the tragedy suffered by this indigenous community. He pointed out that true justice begins when every displaced person returns to their land safely, when every mother who has lost her children feels her voice is heard, and when justice becomes a reality, not a slogan.

He added: “Today, we stand in the presence of a painful memory for Iraq and humanity as a whole: the eleventh anniversary of the genocide suffered by our Yazidi people in Sinjar and the surrounding areas at the hands of the terrorist organization ISIS. This is a crime documented by the testimonies of the victims and the evidence on the ground. It will remain present in the conscience of the nation, not as a passing incident in memory, but as a constant call for justice, fairness, and to prevent recurrence.”

He continued: “Today, we remember the thousands of innocent martyrs, kidnapped women, and children who lost their loved ones. We remember the families uprooted, the villages burned, and the dreams buried under the rubble of hatred and extremism. This tragedy has revealed the danger of silence, the weakness of protection, and the absence of justice at a pivotal moment in our modern history.”
