Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has underscored the crucial need for stability and the avoidance of conflict expansion while emphasizing respect for state sovereignty. His remarks were made during a meeting that highlighted the importance of adhering to United Nations charters, international resolutions, and fostering dialogue and cooperation to maintain regional security.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister’s media office announced that Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, who also serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, met with General Michael Kurilla, the Commander of the US Central Command. The meeting, which took place on Monday, also included the presence of Steve Fagin, the Charg© d’Affaires at the US Embassy, and featured discussions with the new commander of the international coalition forces to combat terrorism in Iraq and Syria, Brigadier General Kevin Lambert, alongside the former commander, General Kevin Leahy.

The discussions focused on the cooperative relationship between Iraq and the International Coalition, examining the evolution of this partnership and the preparations underway to transition towards bilateral security relations with coalition countries. Additionally, the talks covered the activities of the joint high committee between Iraq and the United States, addressing security cooperation and coordination, as well as developments in Syria and their potential impact on regional security.
