Prime Minister Emphasizes State Control Over Weapons to Strengthen Sovereignty


Baghdad:Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi stressed that no one will be allowed to weaken the state or threaten its existence.



According to the Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister met with tribal sheikhs and dignitaries, praising their support for the state and contribution to maintaining order during difficult times. He reiterated that the state must remain strong and sovereign.



MP Murtada al-Ibrahimi emphasized the importance of Iraqi sovereignty in decision-making and presence, highlighting the commitment of all Iraqis to uphold this sovereignty. He noted that the surrender of weapons by some factions to the Iraqi government reflects a serious approach to current challenges and a move towards complete Iraqi sovereignty over its land, airspace, and waters.



MP Murad Ismail, head of the Yazidi Force Alliance bloc, praised the decision of certain groups to place their weapons under state control, calling it a patriotic move that serves Iraq’s interests while ensuring the rights of fighters. He urged remaining factions to integrate into the state’s framework, emphasizing the importance of operating security apparatuses under the Commander-in-Chief.



Shaker al-Tamimi, a member of the Badr parliamentary bloc, stated that the government’s vision involves building a strong state with centralized decision-making, free from weapons outside the state framework.



Wafaa al-Ta’i of the Sadiqoun bloc highlighted that consolidating arms under state control is crucial for enhancing security and stability, unifying security decisions, and fostering a favorable economic and investment climate.



Security expert Fadhil Abu Ragheef asserted that the state’s monopoly on weapons is essential for realizing sovereignty and strengthening national decision-making.



Security expert Sarmad al-Bayati discussed the importance of restricting arms to state control and emphasized the Prime Minister’s vision of rebuilding Iraq’s systems, expanding security and economic relations, and addressing the presence of Turkish forces on Iraqi soil.



Prime Minister Al-Zaidi also spoke about economic reforms, international partnerships, and future projects like the allocation of funds to the Future Generations Fund and new city developments to reflect each province’s identity. He noted that five factions have agreed to surrender their weapons, with dialogue continuing with others.



The Prime Minister concluded by stressing the importance of unifying ranks to preserve Iraq’s history and shielding the country from regional conflicts, with societal stability as a primary goal.
