Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani welcomed the participation of Belgian companies in various service sectors and infrastructure construction on Thursday. A statement by his media office stated that “Al-Sudani received the non-resident Ambassador of Belgium to Iraq, Serge Decchin, where they reviewed Iraqi-Belgian relations, their most prominent issues and development paths, and relations with all European Union countries.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, during the meeting, Al-Sudani indicated that “the government attaches great importance to strengthening economic partnership ties and development opportunities with European companies,” stressing “welcomes the participation of Belgian companies in various service sectors, infrastructure construction, energy, health, and water, in light of the available safe and stimulating investment environment for investors.”

The Prime Minister appreciated Belgium’s contribution to “supporting Iraq’s stability, sovereignty, and supreme interests within the international coalition,” calling for “developing cooperation to move to the stage of participation in reconstruction and economic recovery, in addition to joint coordination to support regional stability and limit regional conflicts, and the importance of working to stop the aggression on Gaza and deliver aid to its afflicted people.”

For his part, Ambassador Decchin conveyed “the greetings of the Belgian Prime Minister to the Prime Minister,” stressing the need to “sign joint memoranda of understanding in various fields.” He expressed his “appreciation for Iraq’s balanced policy, the approach of rapprochement and integration among the peoples of the region that Iraq adopts, and the convergence of viewpoints, which was evident through the efforts highlighted by the recent Arab Summit in Baghdad.”
