Baghdad:Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi is actively reviewing the procedures for implementing the ambitious project aimed at providing one million agricultural plots across Iraq. This initiative seeks to fully utilize the country’s agricultural lands.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Zaydi met with Minister of Agriculture Abdul Rahim Jassim Mohammed Al-Shammari and Minister of Water Resources Muthanna Ali Mahdi Al-Tamimi. The meeting, also attended by the Director of the Prime Minister’s Office, Rashad Khalaf Hashim, focused on the project’s implementation strategies to ensure the effective use of agricultural potential in Iraq.
The initiative, launched by Al-Zaydi, aims to distribute one million agricultural plots across fifteen governorates. It is seen as a crucial step towards enhancing food security, creating job opportunities, revitalizing the agricultural sector, and boosting its contribution to the country’s GDP. The project will allocate plots ranging from 20 to 25 dunams to families, ensuring they are part of complexes with available infrastructure like roads and electricity, while incorporating modern irrigation systems and advanced farming techniques.
Al-Zaydi highlighted that these farms will not only boost agricultural production but also pave the way for developing agricultural processing industries, tailored to the specific crops of each governorate. This approach aims to integrate agricultural production with related industries to maximize economic benefits.
During the meeting, the ministers shared a unified vision regarding land availability, water, and irrigation resources, as well as the technical requirements needed for the project’s success.
