Prime Minister Stresses Importance of Legislative Role in Government Support

Baghdad: Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi has underscored the critical legislative and oversight responsibilities of the Council of Representatives in bolstering the government’s operations.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Prime Minister’s office revealed that al-Zaidi met with a delegation from the Ishraqat Kanoun party, including its political bureau and parliamentary bloc, led by Secretary-General Yasser Majeed Al Nasrallah. During this meeting, the Prime Minister highlighted the necessity of the Council’s legislative and oversight functions in aiding the government’s work, emphasizing the urgency of passing several draft laws, particularly the draft law on the Internal Oversight Authority. He commended the Ishraqat Kanoun bloc for its performance across different sectors.

Al-Zaidi also discussed the government’s strategic initiatives to tackle service and economic challenges, with a focus on housing, electricity, and the creation of economic cities. These efforts are intended to enhance service quality, drive development, and generate employment opportunities. Furthermore, he elaborated on the government’s commitment to reforming the tax and customs systems by automating processes and updating work protocols. The implementation of a pre-payment system starting next October is expected to optimize financial management and elevate non-oil revenue levels.

The Ishraqat Kanoun delegation expressed their support for the Prime Minister’s initiatives and government actions aimed at combating corruption and fortifying Iraq’s sovereignty. They emphasized the significance of proactive measures and enhancing institutional performance, while also showing readiness to endorse the draft internal oversight law to boost collaboration and coordination between the Council of Representatives and oversight bodies.
