Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani affirmed that Iraq will spare no effort in achieving a ceasefire. A statement from his media office noted that Al-Sudani received a phone call from French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss the latest developments in the region and efforts to halt military operations initiated after the attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sudani emphasized Iraq's dedication to achieving a ceasefire and ending the war, which now poses a threat to regional stability and security. He reiterated Iraq's condemnation of the attack that violated its sovereignty and resulted in the deaths of several members of the Popular Mobilization Forces. The Prime Minister described the assault as an attempt to destabilize the region and undermine the social peace achieved through Iraq's efforts against terrorism.
Al-Sudani also expressed his condolences for the French casualties among forces stationed in Erbil Governorate as part of the international coalition against ISIS. He assured that an investigation would be conducted and measures taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
President Macron, in response, expressed support for regional and international efforts to end the conflict and prevent further security deterioration. He highlighted Iraq's significant role in fostering regional stability and stressed the importance of continued bilateral coordination to achieve these goals.
