Aleppo: Syrian security forces in Aleppo arrested Major General Imad Nafouri, one of the most prominent military pilots in the former Syrian regime.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the official Military Operations Directorate confirmed the arrest in an official post, stating: “The Internal Security Forces arrested the criminal Major General Imad Nafouri after a precise operation in Aleppo.” The arrest marks a significant development in Syria’s ongoing efforts to address crimes committed during the years of conflict.

The statement from the Directorate detailed Nafouri’s background, noting that he was born in al-Nabk in the Damascus countryside and commanded the 17th Brigade in 2012. He was known for conducting airstrikes on areas that were outside the control of the former regime and for overseeing a raid on his hometown, resulting in the deaths of six of his relatives. In 2021, Nafouri was appointed Chief of Staff of the Air Force and was held accountable for several massacres against civilians.

Local sources indicated that Nafouri was apprehended while attempting to flee the country, highlighting the seriousness of the charges against him. Aleppo Today TV reported that Nafouri was responsible for numerous crimes committed during the years of the Syrian revolution.

Syrian sources have consistently identified Major General Nafouri as a key figure responsible for airstrikes in regions rebelling against the Assad regime since 2012. His arrest is seen as a pivotal moment in the pursuit of justice for those affected by the conflict.
