Kirkuk: The Head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s (PUK) branches in Kirkuk and Salah al-Din, Aso Mamand, has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to agreements signed with political parties involved in forming the local government in Kirkuk a year ago.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Mamand emphasized, “We are committed to the agreements,” highlighting the ongoing political understandings among the province’s various communities. This statement follows a rejection by the Arab Bloc in the Kirkuk Provincial Council of comments made by PUK council member, Ahmed Fattah, who cast doubt on the existence of an agreement to rotate the governor’s post among the communities in Kirkuk.

In response, Sheikh Dhaher Anwar al-Asi and Raad Saleh al-Jubouri issued a joint statement expressing their disapproval of any deviation from the agreement, which includes provisions for rotating the governor’s post, releasing detainees held in Kurdistan Region prisons, and reconstructing demolished villages. They urged the PUK leadership to provide an official clarification on the issue, cautioning that a lack of response could lead to public opposition.
