Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed holding bilateral talks with Kyiv for the first time in years, emphasizing his openness to further ceasefire agreements following a brief truce over Easter. This development marks a potential shift in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, as Putin expressed willingness to engage in direct dialogue.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Russia announced the resumption of fighting after a surprise 30-hour ceasefire declared by Putin on Saturday. During an interview with Russian state television, Putin stated that Russia is open to any peace initiatives and anticipates a similar response from Ukraine. He highlighted the significance of the ceasefire coinciding with the Easter holiday, stating, “Our attitude toward the truce has always been positive. That is why we put forward such an initiative, especially since we are talking about the bright days of Easter.”

Putin further elaborated on Russia’s stance towards peace efforts, indicating a readiness to consider Ukrainian President Zelenskyy’s proposal for a 30-day ceasefire against civilian targets. “This is all a matter that must be carefully considered, perhaps even bilaterally. We do not rule it out,” he remarked.

In support of Putin’s statements, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed the possibility of direct talks with Ukraine. Peskov, quoted by the Interfax news agency, said, “When the President said that the issue of not bombing civilian targets could be discussed, including bilaterally, the President meant negotiations and discussions with the Ukrainian side.”
