Doha: The Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and US President Donald Trump witnessed the signing of several bilateral agreements between the two countries on Wednesday, on the sidelines of the latter’s visit to Doha.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Emir Tamim and President Trump held closed-door consultations that lasted for more than two hours at the Qatari Emiri Diwan. The discussions prominently featured efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of Israeli detainees.

After their consultation session, the leaders observed the signing of a series of bilateral agreements in the trade and defense sectors. These agreements signify a strengthening of ties between Qatar and the United States.

Following the signing ceremony, Emir Tamim stated, “We discussed many issues in a wonderful meeting, including bilateral relations and the situation in the region.” President Trump echoed this sentiment, noting, “We spent two hours discussing world issues, including Russia and Ukraine, and you helped us a lot. We also discussed the Iranian issue.”

President Trump highlighted the significance of the agreements, mentioning that “Boeing secured the largest order in its history for Qatar Airways, with a total of 160 aircraft.” He revealed that the deal exceeds $200 billion. Furthermore, the agreements included defense contracts, such as an offer to purchase MQ-90 drones.

Emir Tamim welcomed President Trump in Doha on Wednesday at the start of his visit to the Qatari capital, marking the second stop in his Gulf tour. This visit followed a day of diplomacy and partnership-building in Riyadh on Tuesday. President Trump is expected to spend a full day in Doha before proceeding to the UAE for the final leg of his Gulf tour.
