Reconstruction and Development Bloc: We Will Support al-Maliki’s Nomination and Government Formation for These Reasons

Baghdad: The Reconstruction and Development parliamentary bloc affirmed its continued support for Nouri al-Maliki’s nomination and the formation of the new government to confront internal and external challenges.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Head of the bloc, MP Bahaa al-Araji, addressed a press conference, stating that rumors about the events in Syria affecting the security situation have been refuted by security leaders in Parliament. Al-Araji emphasized the capability and strength of the security forces in maintaining stability.

He clarified that political rumors have also touched the tax sector, asserting no tax increases have occurred, although there has been some damage to tax guarantees. He noted that customs duties are being misrepresented and are actually intended to protect domestic products.

Regarding the transfer of ISIS prisoners from Syria to Iraq, al-Araji stated that the decision was made in consultation with all political blocs, emphasizing national interest in controlling and bringing the prisoners to trial. He revealed that there are 1,700 Iraqi prisoners among 140 nationalities. These prisoners are held in secure locations, and a committee of 10 judges has been formed by the Judicial Council to investigate them. The Reconstruction and Development Bloc is advocating for expedited trial procedures to ensure the execution of their death sentences.
