Reconstruction of Al-Umariya Mosque Minaret Begins in Mosul

Mosul: Reconstruction of the minaret of the Al-Umariya Mosque in Mosul has begun. Nineveh Governor Abdul Qadir al-Dakhil announced the commencement of reconstruction work on the minaret of the Al-Umariya Mosque in the Old City on the right bank of Mosul, in cooperation with the Nineveh Antiquities and Heritage Authority, UNESCO, the Sunni Endowment, and the custodian of the Al-Umariya Endowment.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Dakhil stated, "The Al-Umariya Mosque is one of the most prominent heritage and historical mosques in Mosul, dating back more than 500 years. For centuries, it has served as a religious and cultural landmark reflecting the city's historical depth." He emphasized that reconstructing its minaret represents an important step within the project to revive heritage sites that have suffered significant damage in recent years.

He added that the governorate continues to support reconstruction projects for mosques and historical buildings, in coordination with local and international bodies, given their religious, cultural, and touristic value, which contributes to preserving Mosul's architectural heritage and restoring life to its historical landmarks.
