Baghdad: The Renewable Energy Forum kicked off in Baghdad on Monday under the slogan “For a More Sustainable Iraq,” in partnership with Jordan. Minister of Trade Atheer Al-Ghurairi stressed, according to a Ministry statement, that “the renewable energy sector represents a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable development and reducing dependence on traditional energy sources.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Ghurairi pointed to the practical initiatives launched by the Ministry to support this sector, stating, “The most prominent of these are providing solar energy systems to Iraqi families on installment basis through the General Company for Construction Materials Trade, providing solar energy systems for industrial and production projects on installment basis through the General Company for Cars and Machinery Trade, and encouraging Iraqi-Jordanian partnerships in the field of renewable energy to enhance investment and exchange of expertise.”

He added, “Iraq’s participation in such forums
is in line with the government’s vision to build a diversified and sustainable economy based on public-private sector partnerships and openness to regional and international cooperation.” The forum was attended by Jordanian Ambassador to Baghdad Maher Tarawneh, Chairman of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry Fathi Al-Jaghbir, and representatives of a number of Iraqi and Jordanian companies.
