Rubio: The Situation in Syria is Unstable and Could Develop into a “Full-Scale Civil War”

Washington: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stressed that the situation in Syria remains unstable, and the United States does not rule out the possibility of the interim government falling in the coming weeks. He noted that the situation in Syria could develop into a "full-scale civil war."

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Rubio explained in a Senate hearing that the opening of the US Embassy in Syria was delayed due to security concerns about armed groups operating in the country and posing a threat.

He added that the issue is not about the transitional authorities, as they are not believed to cause harm. The problem lies with other elements on the ground that pose a threat, and there is a need to protect not only those entering the country but also those who may be forced to leave.
