Moscow: The Russian Presidency, the Kremlin, announced on Monday a three-day ceasefire with Ukraine next month, marking the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet Union and its allies in World War II. The ceasefire is set to begin at midnight on May 7-8 and conclude at midnight on May 10-11, as ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Kremlin emphasized that the ceasefire is based on humanitarian considerations and called on Ukraine to join in ceasing hostilities during this period. The statement highlighted that all military operations will come to a halt, and Russia expects Ukraine to reciprocate the gesture on the historic occasion.

Furthermore, the statement warned that any violation of the ceasefire by the Ukrainian side would prompt an appropriate response from the Russian armed forces. This announcement comes amidst ongoing tensions between the two nations.

The Kremlin also reiterated Russia's willingness to engage in peace negotiations without preconditions. The statement underlined Russia's aim to address the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis and its openness to engaging constructively with international partners.
