Russia Reaffirms Istanbul as Main Venue for Ukraine Talks

Moscow: Russia has confirmed that Istanbul continues to serve as the primary venue for direct negotiations with Ukraine. Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova expressed gratitude to Turkey for its hospitality and support during her weekly press conference in Moscow.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Zakharova stated, “Istanbul remains the main platform for direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, and we are grateful to Turkey for its hospitality and support. The dates for the negotiations will be determined by the heads of delegations.” She added that they are awaiting further information in this regard.

It is noted that the second round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine took place in Istanbul earlier this month under the auspices of Turkey. These talks resulted in agreements that included the handover of the bodies of 6,000 Ukrainian soldiers, the exchange of sick and wounded soldiers, and the exchange of prisoners of war under the age of 25.

Russia has been conducting a military campaign in Ukraine since February 24, 2022, demanding that Kyiv renounce its aspirations to join Western military alliances as a condition for ceasing hostilities. Kyiv has labeled this demand as “interference” in its internal affairs.
