Riyadh: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov revealed on Tuesday that the talks between his country and the United States, which took place yesterday, Monday, in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, focused primarily on issues of safe maritime transport in the Black Sea.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Lavrov explained that Moscow supports the resumption of the Black Sea Initiative in a more acceptable manner to all, and that it is concerned about the food security of countries in Africa, the Global South, and the East.

Lavrov also accused European countries of inconsistency regarding the cessation of the war in Ukraine, unlike the administration of US President Donald Trump, which he said is discussing preliminary criteria for ending the conflict. He remarked, “They are in direct contradiction with the administration of President Trump, which has clearly stated that preliminary negotiations on the parameters of a final settlement are currently underway.”

Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed earlier today that there is an understanding to continue contacts between Moscow and Washington, though details remain undisclosed. He noted that while there are no plans yet for a conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, if necessary, it will be organized quickly.
