Rome: Patriarch Cardinal Louis Raphael Sako participated in a two-day peace conference organized by the Italian Community of Sant’Egidio under the slogan “Daring Peace.” A number of experts and specialists from around the world participated in the conference.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, in his speech, Sako stated that wars are absurd and driven by material interests, with innocent civilians bearing the brunt. He stressed that peace should be the universal choice, as life is not possible without it. This, he said, necessitates a shift in mentality and education.

Sako emphasized that achieving peace requires collective effort towards justice, equality, dignity, and freedom. He urged clergy to foster a culture of brotherhood and peace, underlining the importance of spiritual and moral values.

He further noted that peace is synonymous with God, the Father of all, referencing the angel’s message to the shepherds, “Peace on earth.” He questioned the current state of peace, pointing out widespread worry and fear.

Sako concluded by asserting that wealth should be directed towards peace, job creation, and enhancing life quality, rather than fueling arms production and conflict. He called on politicians to strive for peace both domestically and globally.
